This is a class designed to make the student more comfortable with painting the figure from life through the repetition of essential principles of color, design, and composition. The focus will be on creating a strong sense of 3-dimensional forms by looking closely at proportions, edges, the effects of light, and the use of interesting paint application. We will also make a practical use of anatomy, focusing on major anatomical landmarks that the student will be more likely to remember after they have taken the class. Last but not least, we will learn to relate what we paint to classical masters of painting, and explore the elements of what made their paintings so great in the first place.
