Celebrate the vibrant colors and warmth of spring and discover techniques to create bold and expressive colorscape paintings using the pastel medium. The class will focus on painting landscapes, waterscapes, and gardenscapes. The course is geared to all levels of experience.

Experienced painters will learn new techniques to loosen up and edit a scene to create painterly and vibrant works. For artists new to pastels, the class offers a step-by-step process to jump-start painting with the pure pigments of this versatile medium. Diana will share her color-forward approach using demonstrations and exercises and lots of individual attention at the easel. We will use color strategies and expressive mark-making to give paintings energy and movement. We will practice minimizing detail in the landscape to capture the essence of special places in nature.

We will explore a variety of underpainting techniques to simplify design and infuse paintings with fresh color and energy. You will discover a wide range of pastel materials (pastel brands, surfaces, and tools) to consider adding to your pastel toolbox. During each class, you will have plenty of time to create fully developed paintings.
