In this 6-week class, you’ll learn to release the constraints of technical accuracy and perfectionism, which can often stifle creativity and restrict expression. We will focus on helping you to develop an intuitive approach to painting and trusting your own inner process, which can bring life, joy, and vibrancy to your work and foster a genuine connection with the viewer.
Classes will include simple mindfulness exercises, both with and without paint, designed to help you stay present in your painting process without getting caught in self-criticism and “shoulds”, to help encourage a looser, more expressive approach to your work and to foster the joy in painting.
Whether your painting style leans toward realism, impressionism, expressionism or abstraction, or you are experimenting with new techniques, this approach can help you to gain confidence as you grow as an artist and develop a fresh perspective on your artistic journey.
All levels of painters welcome, painting in any medium.
Standing easels are available in the studio.
Materials: Bring your favorite art and painting materials, and a small sketchbook, a notebook, and a pen or pencil.
About the Artist: Lisa Miceli
About the Artist: Alison Ritrovato has spent many years in the mindfulness and spirituality field, teaching both individuals and groups following a successful career as an APRN. Opening her own practice brought her immense joy as she guided clients on their journeys to peace and mindful wellness. She taught popular classes in her office, through adult education programs, and as a yoga teacher at a local studio. However, the onset of COVID-19 led to the closure of her practice, prompting her to adapt to the new normal. During this period, Alison embraced a new passion: art. She immersed herself in the world of creativity, taking numerous online and live classes with exceptional teachers. Five years later, she has been accepted into many juried shows, earning several awards along the way. Alison combines her love of meditation and universal consciousness to connect deeply with her art subjects, bringing out the conversations they convey to her. Now, she is excited to merge her two passions—mindfulness and art—by teaching a connective practice to other artists. Alison believes, “When the artist can connect the viewer to something deeper in their creation, magic happens.” More about Alison Ritrovato
