Artists are drawn to paint the beauty and changeable nature of the ocean which is both a challenge and an inspiration. Boats are often included as the human element in a seascape which can elevate the scene and create a compelling story that draws the viewer in. In this workshop we will teach you to paint seascapes and boats with greater freedom, looseness of brush or palette knife work, and to convey the light and atmosphere of the scene. Through demos and instruction in both oil and watercolor, you will learn how to design your seascape with an emphasis on values, counterchange and dynamic color notes. We will focus on how to paint convincing boats in your seascape, to use boats as a design element, and place them in proper scale within the painting for a dynamic effect. Our goal is to help you understand how to convey the movement of a boat through the water, and to properly illustrate different types of boats whether at anchor or underway.
