Learn to paint on location. These plein air classes are taught by two artists painting the same scene to give students a comprehensive understanding of both mediums, oil and watercolor, and guidance about how and why to choose a particular scene to paint. Learning the concepts of plein air painting can help students develop paintings with greater vibrancy, atmosphere, depth and sense of light.
Learning these concepts in oil and watercolor will help students understand how the creative process transcends the medium and how developing this flexibility will help them find their voice as painters. While each medium has its own nature, the commonality is creativity and design. In the end, we hope students will develop broken color, fresh brushwork, immediacy, and spontaneity in their paintings. We will also focus on highlighting the point of interest, eliminating unnecessary details, and designing an interesting composition that will keep the viewer in the painting.
Howard and Lisa will each do demos in their medium and answer questions as they paint. They will help you set up and then give instruction as you progress. Their tips and techniques will help you improve composition, value, and to capture the atmosphere of the scene.
