Learn to create effective landscape paintings that communicate your unique interpretation of the land, water and sky. We will explore composition, texture and reflections in all the elements of a landscape painting. Learn how to compose a scene, take color and value notes and then translate that information for a pastel painting in the studio. Weather permitting there will be some observation and note-taking outdoors. You will learn how to simplify your design and layer colors that will give structure and harmony to your work. Each day will begin with an instructive demo and there will be smaller more targeted demos interspersed as needed. All levels welcome!

Karen Israel is a nationally recognized, award-winning artist. Dynamic composition and a unique viewpoint are the hallmarks of Karen’s pastel paintings. Stylistically she strives for realism, but she lets the mood and form of the subject dictate her approach. These subjects are rendered with a strong appreciation for the rigors of formal design coupled with a playful array of color. Karen is affiliated with many prestigious art organizations and clubs including the Salmagundi Club, Lyme Art Association, The Copley Society, and the American Artists Professional League. She currently serves on the PSA Board of Governors. Karen is a teacher and instructing demonstrator for many art organizations and she conducts demos and workshops for art organizations locally and nationally.
