This two-day workshop is intended for artists of all levels who have had some experience working in oils. In this class we’ll explore various approaches to paint expressive still life paintings. Although the workshop will include several demonstrations and the instructor painting alongside the class, the goal of the course is for each artist to arrive at their own interpretation of the still life more quickly and with more confidence.

Artists can choose from multiple still life setups throughout the studio. Working from our chosen set up, we’ll simplify the subject into basic geometric shapes and overall value structure. It’s here, on day one, that we’ll investigate various designs and compositions before blocking in our final composition. On day two, we’ll continue to refine our paintings and review tips for painting loosely and expressively — without losing control.
