Betsy Barry
Betsy Barry is a colored pencil artist working from her home studio in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Using her gardens and the beautiful Connecticut shoreline as her inspiration, she creates illustrations from life. Betsy’s goal is to bring awareness to the everyday beauty of the natural world that surrounds us.
Hannah Cohen

Hannah Cohen (they/them) is an artist and illustrator born and raised in Colorado. When not not making scientific illustrations, most of their work is still very biological, with surreal and symbolic elements. Beauty, detail, and finesse sit at the center of Cohen’s artistic practice in equal measure. They are proficient with graphite, colored pencil, watercolor, gouache, pen, and marker, and are happy to work with students to explore any of these media.

Jessica Daigle

Jessica Daigle is a classically trained Illustrator devoted to bringing discoveries, stories and botanicals to life through captivating, and highly detailed visuals. Her botanical illustrations have been exhibited in local and international exhibitions, including; The Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh, Scotland, Mall Galleries in London, The Society of Illustrators Museum in New York City, The New York Botanical Gardens and Marin Art and Garden Center in California. Her botanical work is also published in many issues of Fine Gardening Magazine. Jessica’s scientific illustrations are found in numerous pages of scientific journals working with scientists from The California Academy of Sciences, Brown University, Boston University and Penn State.

Alyse Ochniak

The intersection of art and science is integral to Alyse Ochniak’s art practice. She is an interdisciplinary artist living at the edge of the San Gabriel Mountains in Southern California. Primarily, Alyse focuses on natural subjects in graphite and watercolor. Teaching all ages has been her passion for over 30 years. Alyse aims to make materials, techniques, and subjects approachable and accessible so everyone can enjoy the art process, and beauty of nature.

Dino Pulerà

Growing up, Dino Pulerà was always inquisitive about the natural world and had a passion for art, science and nature. Wanting to combine these interests, he pursued his undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Toronto, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Zoology and his Master of Science in Biomedical Communications (BMC). After completing his graduate studies, he spent the first part of his career working for a biomedical art studio as a scientific and medical illustrator and animator producing visuals, predominately for undergraduate textbook publications. The second part of his career has been spent working for a medical legal studio as an associate art director and senior medical illustrator creating visuals for personal injury lawyers. Dino also runs his independent business specializing in the visualization of vertebrate anatomy and palaeontology. Some notable clients include the Royal Canadian Mint, Canadian Geographic, Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto Zoo and Scientific American. He is the sole illustrator and co-author of an internationally renowned and award-winning comparative anatomy dissection manual entitled The Dissection of Vertebrates, currently in its third edition with the fourth edition in the works. His work has won numerous awards and has been displayed in many international exhibitions. Dino is also recognized as a Certified Medical Illustrator (CMI) by The Board of Certification of Medical Illustrators.

Kate Samworth

Kate Samworth depicts the fear and wonder of the natural world in her highly detailed drawings of imaginary places. She explores the spiritual questions and existential anxiety raised by observing nature and our rapidly changing environment. Her background in printmaking and illustration are evident in her scratchboard engravings, in which each mark is made with precision. She exhibits regularly, has illustrated several books for children and adults, and is published in various magazines including Orion, High Country News, Illustoria, and Southern Review. Kate Samworth has been teaching since 1992 and offers courses in observational drawing and painting, illustration, and the art of natural history.

Zillah Smith

Zillah Smith has ten years of experience using Procreate in their daily routine as a tattoo artist, as well as several years experience as a freelance illustrator. Their work has always leaned toward capturing the natural world, especially plants and critters, working in ink, liquid watercolor, gouache, and digital mediums. Zillah loves science communication; sharing facts and discoveries in engaging and insightful ways. They co-host and art direct an entomology podcast called There Will Be Bugs.

Natalija Stojanovic
Based in Michigan, Natalija Stojanovic is an artist with an interdisciplinary background and various certifications in scientific and natural science illustration. Her education has supported her teaching experience in university-level art instruction, studio settings, and online platforms. As a college art professor, she is continually inspired by the diversity and complexity of the natural world, particularly enjoying the depiction of distinctive bird species and rare flowers using graphite, colored pencils, watercolor, and gouache.
Jessica Southwick

Jessica Southwick (she/her) built her career in graphic design and illustration. She’s
illustrated children’s books and greeting cards, designed everything from logos to
books, and has had her assemblage art exhibited at the Florence Griswold Museum.
Most recently, she’s returned to her love of analog creativity, primarily through
sketchbook art and journal-keeping, and is documenting this rediscovery through her
new artistic identity, The Second Wind Artist.

Cindy Flanagan

Cindy Flanagan is a naturalist, artist, and educator, who has dedicated her work to connecting people to nature and place through art, science, and adventure. Her natural science illustration work stems from her nature journaling process. She connects to her subjects by going out, observing and asking questions. Her less than perfect sketches and notes of whatever she is exploring in the field gives her insights and understanding, foster her curiosity, and springboard her creativity to capture the uniqueness of her subjects and their stories. Cindy’s formal art training and nature illustrating came later in life, and she hopes is inspiration to others that anyone can learn a skill, you just need to take time to learn about it and put in the practice.
