Accessibility

Lyme Art Association is committed to ensuring accessibility for people with disabilities, both physically at our Old Lyme gallery and online digitally. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Wheel Accessibility at the Gallery
The Lyme Art Association galleries are wheelchair accessible. We have handicap parking available at both the front entrance and the back entrace of the gallery, and a sidewalk leads up to the front doors. We have movable ramps that allow wheelchairs to access the building through the front doors. To better serve patrons, we ask that people who need wheelchair access call ahead, so we can make sure the ramp is in place.  Because of a small set of stairs, access to the Goodman Gallery space is not accessible for wheelchairs. The gallery currently does not have an elevator, so to access the lower level, wheelchair users will have to exit out the front doors, and reenter the building through the downstairs doors. In the lower level, where both the Art Studio and the Mile Brook Gallery are located, there is a ramp with hand rails.

Bathrooms
Bathrooms are located upstairs and downstairs. Both of the downstairs bathrooms are handicap accessible.

To get a feel for what the gallery space looks like before you arrive, we have uploaded images of LAA’s interior and exterior along with a layout of the gallery in a PDF format. Use the following links or the buttons to view.

Digital Conformance status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. The Lyme Art Association is making constant efforts to improve the accessibility of its site and services in the belief that it is our collective moral obligation to allow seamless, accessible, and unhindered use for those of us with disabilities.

We aim to make all pages and content on the Lyme Art Association website accessible, but some content may not yet fully meet the highest accessibility standards. This could be due to challenges in identifying the most suitable technological solution.
