No matter your style, you will learn techniques to creating portraits that hold the viewer’s attention. We will explore the use of subtle temperature shifts, broken color, and edge quality—all which contribute to a more convincing and captivating portrait. It’s these subtle, yet more advanced techniques, that bring a portrait to life. Even if your viewer has an untrained eye and is unable to see these aspects of your work, they will certainly feel them! They may not know why your portrait stands out from others, but they will most definitely appreciate it.

Over this two-day workshop, I will demo as well as walk around and help everyone individually. Whatever your skill level, I will meet you there and we will work together. While our work will be intense, our atmosphere will be relaxed. I will also explain my process of adding components to a piece to make a portrait become a story.

NOTE: In order to get the most out of the workshop, the instructor (Mike) recommends students create an underpainting or have the portraits blocked in before coming on the first day.
