Improve your watercolor skills, confidence and learn new painting techniques as you study and copy selected works by John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, J.M.W. Turner, Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keeffe and other master watercolorists. For centuries, artists have used this time-honored tradition visiting museums to study and copy the paintings of the great artists. Each class will begin with a watercolor demo that will cover various techniques including composition, loose and free brushstrokes, creating clean wash backgrounds, wet-into-wet, drybrush, and color theory as it applies to layering and mixing colors that match the master paintings. Students will then create with teacher guidance ‘studies’ from selected masterworks. Subjects will include flowers, landscape, fruit, seascape and simple architecture and figurative studies. This course combines historic masterworks of watercolor with practical how-to-paint instruction in a rewarding and enjoyable class that is sure to advance your watercolor practice.

Some watercolor painting experience is recommended.
