When is your painting done? Whether you are an abstract painter, an impressionist or a realist, deciding when your painting is done can be one of the most difficult challenges painters face. Many painters struggle to understand when to step back from a painting and subsequently overwork it, or are unsure of changes they can readily make to improve the painting so they abandon it.  Guessing at how to correct the problem only takes you farther from your goal, and you can lose the freshness of your painting and the message you want to convey.

In this class we will focus on understanding when you have achieved a pleasing balance of value, color and design, and when the narrative of your painting is complete. Developing your ability to step back and evaluate your painting and bring it to another level can help you to create images that will captivate your viewers.

Students can bring in paintings they are working on at home and want to rework and or can work on a new painting in class. The class will include demos, individual instruction, painting exercises, and feedback with the group to develop your ability to decide when your painting is done.

Any medium and level of student welcome.
