Diana Rogers, "Garden Confetti, Early Evening", pastel

Be inspired by nature’s color palette in this two-day workshop. Explore techniques to create expressive colorscape paintings using the lively pastel medium.

This studio-based workshop will focus on landscapes and waterscapes and is geared for all levels of experience. Experienced painters can try new techniques to loosen up and use juicy color and mark-making to create vibrant paintings. For artists new to pastels, the session offers a step-by-step process to jump-start painting with this versatile medium.

Diana will share her color-forward approach to pastel painting using demonstrations, fun exercises, and lots of individual attention at the easel. We will explore methods to create lively paintings with bold color, simplified shapes, and energetic mark-making.

The session explores underpainting techniques to simplify design and infuse paintings with energy. Participants will discover a wide range of pastel materials (pastel brands, surfaces, and tools) to consider for your pastel toolbox. Participants will have plenty of time to paint and to create color studies and fully developed paintings.
