Painting pretty pictures is just fine and dandy; we all do them and they are great. But what do you do when you want to take your portraits from visuallly striking to emotionally arresting? How do you tell a story with your portraits? We are all born creative, but that creativity leaves us over time if it’s not nurtured. In this workshop, we will not only be learning to elevate our portrait skills, we will also develop some techniques we can use to bring back some of that natural-born creativity, helping us create moving narratives and stories in our work. It’s wonderful when your viewers walk by your painting and say, “That’s really lovely.” But why not stop them in their tracks? That is one of our jobs as artists, afterall: to make our viewers feel or understand something.
