Upcoming Art Talks
G. Roger Clements Art Talk: The Reluctant Portraitist – A Modest Collection Of Photos With People
Saturday, September 20 at 3 pm
Tickets: $10 per person

On Saturday, September 20 at 3 pm at the Lyme Art Association, photographer G. Roger Clements is presenting a talk on his portrait photography. He will share a variety of his photos, his inspirations and what he aims to capture and convey through this photography about the nature of people and their relationship to their enviroments.
About the Artist: Roger Clements is a photographer and an architectural designer who has run his own Fairfield County-based building design and drafting business, Sasqua Associates LLC, for the past 35 years. A graduate of Knox College in Illinois with a BA in Etching & Graphics and a minor in French, he studied at the University of Besançon in France, and took design classes at Harvard with Jeremiah Eck and Robert A.M. Stern. Though Roger worked various jobs over the years, he segued back to the Arts via teaching Art and Architecture at Greens Farms Academy in Westport, CT. Then in 1985, Roger started his own design firm and continued to explore his art.
Some years ago, Roger had a stroke, which made it difficult to read, so now he spends his time making visual work and photographing architectural structures and people. Additionally, he has produced two books of photography on architecture and transportation. Roger has also reconnected with his previous love of analog film and joined it together with his 3D architectural maquettes, which are a blend of cardboard, illustration, canvas, oil paint, and wood.
Roger has shown his work in Westport, New York, and Boston, as well as Lyme, Old Lyme, and New London, CT. Roger currently lives, photographs, and draws in New London, Connecticut, but travels to the Fairfield area once a week to work in the architectural world.
Bob Potter Art Talk: A Nation Divided, A Nation Restored: The World of Winslow Homer
Saturday, September 27 at 3 pm

The artist Winslow Homer, considered one of America’s greatest artists, will show the reality of the Civil War war and the country and its people that will emerge as our nation defines a new identity. From scenes of the battlefied to the innocence of the school yard to sweeping ocean vistas of sailing and the sea, Winslow Homer’s mastery of painting in oil and watercolor will combine with his early training as an illustrator to create visual stories of life in America that captivated audiences of his time as they still do today more than 150 years later.
Proceeds from Bob Potter’s art talk will to go to the Lyme Art Association Landscape Project.
Art Lecture Presenter Bob Potter is the former Executive Director of the Lyme Art Association. He is a graduate of Syracuse University’s School of Visual and Performing Arts and spent his early career as an art director and marketing executive for leading media companies including Scholastic Magazines, Time Warner, and National Geographic. He and his wife Jeanne, who is a master watercolorist and art instructor, live in Old Lyme, Connecticut.
Todd Casey Art Talk & Book Signing: The Art of Still Life
Saturday, October 18 at 3 pm
Tickets: $20 per person

On October 18, come hear well-known artist, expert teacher and writer, Todd Casey talk about his book, The Art of Still Life: A Contemporary Guide to Classical Techniques, Composition, and Painting in Oil. This comprehensive book offers a contemporary approach to the subject of still life painting, and instructs artists on the foundational basics and advanced techniques they need for successful drawing and painting. In addition to Casey’s stunning paintings, the book includes over fifty past and present masters, so that the book will do double duty as a hardworking how-to manual and a visual treasure trove of some of the finest still life art throughout history and being created today.
Todd will talk on how the book came to fruition during COVID and how this book is a must-have for both students and artists. Additionally, Todd will be selling copies of his books at the lecture.
About Todd Casey: Originally from Lowell, MA, Casey’s work touches on more than simplistic realism. There is a haunting, nearly literary quality to each frame— a feeling that subjects are viewed from behind mottled glass, burnished by enigmatic candlelight, or brushed by the soft, hazy edges of a half-remembered dream. His work is classically styled but progressive in approach. Every painting has a tale to tell, brewed from a deep well of introspective thought. In recent years, Todd has made the transition from painter to author, teacher and lecturer. He published his first art book, The Art of Still Life, in 2020. His second book The Oil Painters’ Color Handbook cames out in August of 2022. His work is also featured in Cocktails: A Still Life, by Christine Sismondo and James Waller.
