Learn to develop the unique atmosphere and spirit of a scene through effective use of color and value, and how to create colorful paintings with depth and light. We will explore how each color has a value and a tint and how to translate monochrome studies into vivid works of art. Learn to create landscapes that are tonal and moody or vibrant with sunlit areas and shadows with dimension and color.
In this class you will learn to use the color wheel and the value scale as completely different tools, gain an understanding of the use of analogous and complementary colors, and see color as value. Learn to design a color wheel from your own color palette to help you create your signature colors to reflect your unique vision of the landscape. Painting with your signature colors can allow you to use color more effectively to achieve a sense of light and atmosphere in your landscapes.
Any medium may be used, there will be instructor demos in oil and watercolor. Students can work from demo images or bring their own photo references.
