Designing your scene is a creative reimagining of what you are seeing in a landscape or seascape; nature rarely provides the perfect composition and colors, and many artists struggle to decidee how to convey the beauty of a scene and what to leave out.

Paintings with strong design including harmony, contrast, gradation and unity usually begin with a value sketch to work out the design and reorganize the scene.  In this class we will practice sketching and letting go of the photo to redesign the scene and paint it in your own unique style.  Class includes instructor demos in oil and watercolor and individual instruction.  Weather permitting we will practice sketching outdoors along the river at MMOA. Bring sketchbooks, pencils, charcoal for drawing, or any other pen/markers for sketching.
