In this unique, hybrid workshop, you will paint a master copy of your choice with the intent of learning how that artist painted the piece and, in turn, apply what you learned to your own original work! If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to paint like your favorite artists, this is one of the best ways to do it. Of course, everyone’s signature is different, so everyone paints differently, but we can certainly learn to achieve a close fascimile with enough practice. So pick out a piece you’d like to copy and let’s get after it!
This is a two-day workshop where will spend most of our time on the master copy; deconstructing it, figuring out what pigments may have been used, and reconstructing the piece on our own canvases using similar brushwork and edges. We will also start our own original works a few steps behind our master copies so that we can apply the techniques while they are fresh in our minds.
Now here’s the added bonus: the hybrid part of the workshop. As we may not have time to finish our original works in class, you will take your piece home and finish it to about 90% there. Once you have done this, whether it’s a week, a month, or a year later, you and I will have a private video call where we will look at your piece, discuss what you have learned, how you applied it to your piece, and how you should go about finishing the piece.
