2-Week Course
In this beginner-friendly 2-week course, students will be introduced to the foundational techniques and observational skills used in botanical watercolor painting. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on exercises, we’ll explore how watercolor behaves on paper, how to build form through transparent layers, and how to approach botanical subjects with confidence and clarity.
Together, we’ll focus on the essential building blocks of watercolor including water control, color mixing, value structure, layering, and edge handling. Students will learn how subtle shifts in temperature, value, and softness can help create dimension and luminosity within petals, leaves, and other natural forms. Alongside technical instruction, we’ll also discuss strategies for
simplifying complex botanical subjects and strengthening observational skills.
What Students Will Learn:
• Watercolor materials and paper basics
• Water control and foundational wash techniques
• Color mixing for natural botanical subjects
• Understanding value and how it creates form
