This class will explore how to approach fall and winter’s changing colors, weather and mood. We will help you overcome the challenges of painting the colorful transformations of fall including how to interpret the vivid colors in the landscape as they change, and the cooler colors of winter so they fit into the design, composition, and a proper value and color scheme in your painting. In this class we will help you to learn how to balance color and light effects by understanding the source of light and focusing on effective use of values in your painting. We will focus on understanding values vs. color using sketchbooks and using lights to make darks. Through demos and individual instruction you will learn to design a well-balanced fall into winter landscape that captures the beauty of fall’s brilliance and warmth, and the changing light as we transition into cooler weather.  Class includes instructor demos in oil and watercolor and individual instruction.  Weather permitting we will practice sketching outdoors at Florence Griswold grounds and at LAA.  Bring sketchbooks, pencils, charcoal for drawing, or any other pen/markers for sketching.
