We invite all Lyme Art Association member artists to participate our summer exhibition, A Century of Inspiration. We seek to draw connections between the spirit of our founding artists and that of our current members.
Do you paint cows, as Matilda Browne and William Henry Howe did? Or perhaps interiors, or nocturnes? Graceful and mysterious figures, beloved children, or loyal hounds? Do you know of a drift of lovely mountain laurel that you have been wanting to paint? Do you work in loose, soft brushwork or precise and fine miniature? These are all the kinds of connections that we are looking for! We are not asking you to copy a work, or change your style at all, but to find a connection between your work and one of the Association’s early artists or forbears. So we encourage you to spend a little time communing with our forbears – peruse their works below, paint in some of their favorite locales, and if you can, visit the Florence Griswold Museum’s special exhibit on our Centennial.
Click here for the online submission form. Entries accepted through July 15.
View a gallery showing the wide range of works created by our founding artists.
A Century of Inspiration draws connections between the spirit of our founding artists and that of our current members. Looking to get your creative juices flowing? We have assembled some galleries of LAA member works, by subject, to help! Each image below by original Lyme Art Colony artists leads to a gallery of similarly themed works by current LAA members.
Join your fellow member artists to paint outdoors. All members are invited, and members may bring a guest!
