Every successful painting begins long before the first brushstroke. It begins with that moment when a scene captures your attention and you instinctively recognize the painting hidden within it. The challenge is preserving that original vision throughout the painting process. In this two-day workshop, students will learn a practical approach for turning that vision into a stronger, more intentional landscape.

Through demonstrations, guided painting sessions, and individual instruction, Zufar will demonstrate the efficient decision-making process he has developed through years of professional plein air and studio painting. Rather than simply showing how to paint a landscape, he will demonstrate how experienced painters make their most important decisions before committing to the final painting.

A key part of the workshop is a quick 15–20 minute painted value study completed before the final painting. Requiring only minimal additional materials, this step helps clarify composition, strengthen value relationships, and build confidence before the larger painting begins. Students will practice this process on two paintings, making it easy to incorporate into their own painting routine. A demonstration of applying this approach to a nocturne will also be included.

Designed for advanced beginners through intermediate painters. Oil and acrylic painters are welcome.
