In this two day workshop with Mike Laiuppa, students will paint a master copy of a John Singer Sargent painting with the intent of learning how Sargent painted and solved problems. Students will use a facsimile of his palette and attempt to recreate Sargent’s brushwork. Painting a master copy of any artist is a great way to learn how that artist works/worked. By doing this practice before painting one’s own pieces, artists will find it easier to transition master techniques into their own work.

Before the workshop, Mike will send students a selection of Sargent’s pieces from which to choose. Students can choose to do multiple if they wish, but are encouraged to stay within the provided selection of images. For more info about this, please see the materials list.
